The first video clip of “Evolutions featuring Luisa” playing live!!

Note that yes we write house music live but that is by no means the only style we create. We also do chill-out/lounge (have a listen to our track “Touch inside my Life” which we’d describe as chilled-dub), as well as hiphop, drum&bass, dub, and other less conventional genres which we create as we go along, all written live on stage.

Thanks to Jim for shooting the video!

Evolutions :- how we began.

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Hi everyone,

Evolutions is a live music experience, currently working in collaboration with various other musicians. This is the story of how Evolutions began and started working with Luisa in late 2009 . . .

Both Chris (formerly working solo under the name Evolutions-from-the-Void, now under the easier name of Evolutions!) and Luisa were working in the same covers band when for some reason we decided to try live vocals over Chris’s live-created chill-out music, and it worked extremely well! We occasionally played some live-written pieces at some gigs . . .

Then in November 2009 we were given the opportunity to play for the famous Sunday Brunch at Indigo-pearl, Phuket, (where we both had already been doing other musical performances) which allowed the collaboration to continue to develop. We soon found that people really love the music we create live as the energy which can be projected from real-time live creation is unlike anything which comes from doing a copy of something already created.

After being asked for CD’s and contact details by so many people each time we play, we decided to start this blog to tell our fans a bit more about what we do, and offer recorded tracks, video, photo’s and other cool stuff.

Chris (currently writing music live on stage under the name “Evolutions”) has always been heading towards live-creation of music. Although he picked up the violin before he was one year old (his dad used to play every day at home after work) the first instrument he learned from someone else was the recorder. His mother had the frustrating task of trying to teach Chris, when all he wanted to do was create rather than play what anyone else had written :)

In the 80’s when the first personal computers were available, Chris programmed a “BBC-B” computer to play simple chords while he used a Casio VL-tone (a very simple synthesiser) to play tunes over the top, and the concept was born. By the late 90’s he was creating music live on stage in London with other musicians, but the technology was a challenge at the time . . . 3 car-loads of equipment, 6 hours to set up and it was not easy to use at all. Then technology finally caught up with Chris’s dreams in the mid 2000’s when he was lugging a desktop computer around with an early version of the amazing Reason software which allowed him to write chill-out music live.  That evolved onto a laptop, with the addition of a keyboard and a later version of Reason, plus DJ software. The concept went through various different incarnations under different names including “Andaman-Ambient”, and “Live Remix Collective” to the current point where Evolutions gets amazing audience feedback at the most important weekly chill-out event in Phuket.

At the time of writing, “Evolutions featuring Luisa” was only “born” a few weeks ago, yet already has a lot of fans all over the world.

We look forward to our continued evolution :)
